On Chandpur-Dhaka route, there was once the launch of the traditional 'Bengal Water' launch service, which is no longer there. But now a number of advanced launches are being run on Dhaka-Chandpur route every day. Among them, the name of the launch service of Ab A Jamjam, Raf Raf, Mayur-1, Mayur-2, Al-Borak, Meghna Rani, Imam Hasan etc. is notable.
The Harina-Alubazar Ferry route under Chandpur river port started in 2001 with the zeal of the late Awami League leader and former Water Resources Minister Abdur Razzak. The purpose of launching the Ferryghat is to establish easy connectivity between Chittagong and Sylhet regions of Khulna and Barisal areas along with Mongla Port. When the route is running, the distance of Chittagong to Mongla by road is less than 128 kms. People from south and west can travel to Chittagong without leaving Dhaka. As a result, the passengers survived 8/10 hours. For this, BIWTA has spent around 8 crores for the 6.50 acres of deer and 28 cemented installations, restrooms and 6 toilets complexes and huge parking yards, ferry pontoon etc. on 5.00 acre land in Alubazar. But due to navigability crisis in the dry season, ferries and navigations are hampered. There are numerous submerged fires on the Harina-Alubazar Ferry route. With the planned dredging, keeping the naval route all year round, the importance of the ghat and the movement of the traffic will increase. Harina Ferryghat made an average of 60 vehicles every day.
Due to lack of water / pressure in the upstream of the rainy season, the sediments of the river are being filled up to the bottom of the river and the main streams are divided into several parts, narrowing the river. Naval vessels are set up to navigate the navigable vessels. They are harmed by pirates / miscreants and steals them.
Naval assisted equipment, so that pirates / mischief makers can not steal / spoil and a coastal station has been set up in Chandpur for the safety of navigational vessels and passenger safety. Due to this, the settlement has reduced greatly.
Vessels of BIWTC transporting through Chandpur port
After the independence of Bangladesh, BIWTC was born in 1974 with the smallest 14 institutions, including former IGRSN, BDRS, BGS, Banga Vee, Pak Vare, Sohagpur, Sea Tag etc., as Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman President Ordinance. This institution started with a total of five hundred vessels carrying a small amount. At present the number of vessels has decreased. The vessels of this organization were: passenger ships, freight ships, oilseed ships, rescue flags and ferry passengers. Most of the vessels operate under the Chandpur port. BIWTC is known as Passenger Rocket Service.
Passenger ships include PS Gazi, PSKY, PS Moment, PS Sahid Belayet, PS Ostrich, PS Masud, PS Leopcha, PS Turn, MV Sonargaon, MV Sela. Currently PS Ostrich, PS Masud, PS Leopcha, PS Turn, MV Sonargaon and MV Sela are operating on the Dhaka-Chandpur-Khulna route.
Dhaka-Khulna rocket service travels to Dhaka-Chandpur-Barisal-Nolcity-Jhalokati-Hulharhat-Kawkhali-Charkhali-Sunnysy-Baramachua-Morolganj-Mongla-Khulna. Goaland Chand-Chandpur service is now closed.
