After the independence of the country, the business trade of the Puran Bazar was further expanded. Market scales and commercial establishments have multiplied. At this time Chandpur Industrial and Merchant Association was reconstructed by some enthusiastic businessmen. The membership of the association increased a lot. The Chandpur industrial and mercantile association is not just a business organization, but this association has become one of the social services in Chandpur. In the sincere efforts of the chairman of the association, Mr. Jahangir Akhanda Selim, the merchant association was recognized as the 'Chandpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry' in 1985 and was promoted to the 'A' Classic Chamber in 1991. He was included in the Federation of Chandpur Chamber of Commerce, and he was elected as the Director of the FBCCI Council for the seventh time. It is to be noted here that traders of Puran Bazar have been playing a commendable role in the development of Chandpur city and in the field of social service. In 1946, the contribution of the traders of Puran Bazar to the establishment of Chandpur College was memorable. It is said that traders of Puran Bazar established the college by raising the subscription. Besides, they also contributed to the construction of Chandpur Women's College, BD Hall, Town Hall.

Since the 1960s, the Meghna began to break newbazar and Puran Bazar in Karal Gras. Puranbazar businessmen are the most affected due to river erosion. Merchant associations played an active role in the breakdown. This association attracts the attention of the government repeatedly to break apart. Puranabazar business has long been affected due to road constraints. Chandpur-Shariatpur ferry service was introduced and the road connectivity between Dhaka-Puran Bazar-Chittagong was expanded as Chandpur's business trade has expanded.
